Local Camping Information

United States Forest Service Campgrounds
Winter Park and Fraser, Colorado

October, 2020 Update

This fall’s devastating fires forced an earlier than usual closure for the local campgrounds. The information below was originally posted in June, 2020 but it’s general information still is relevant for 2021 campers.

Our friends at the Fraser River Valley Lions Club manage and operate the local campgrounds by permission and under a special use permit from the US Forest Service. This year, you won’t be surprised things are different from usual and may change over time. As always, the Forest Service does not allow reservations at the Idlewild or St. Louis campgrounds.

The St. Louis Campground west of Fraser is now open for tent and RV campers as usual. You can call the St Louis host at 970-726-4330 for availability and information. The Idlewild Campground south of the town of Winter Park is now open as well. Its opening was delayed by several days due to hazard tree removal by the Forest Service. Call the campground hosts at 970-726-0889 for availability and with questions. Robber’s Roost and Midland campgrounds will be closed all summer.

The Lions Club publishes a Brochure each spring which includes normal information about the campgrounds, contact information for updates on local events, a map as well as coupons and ads from local businesses. The printed Brochure is available at local Chambers of Commerce, libraries and many local businesses. You can also view the 2020 Brochure online by clicking here.
