Volunteer in the mountains on National Public Lands Day!
GRANBY, Colo. (Sept. 18, 2019) – Public lands, including National Parks, National Forests and National Recreation and Wilderness Areas, are a vital resource and recreational asset for all to use and enjoy. In Grand County, more than 80 percent of the lands are public lands, making their preservation and stewardship all the more critical. These trails, rivers and other natural resources that draw in tourists and strengthen the local economy.
This year, Grand County will be hosting its 25th Annual National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 28 – one of the biggest, longest running NPLD events in the NATION! Volunteers will meet at the Silvercreek Inn in Granby with registration and a continental breakfast beginning at 7 a.m.
This year’s projects include: Upper Colorado River Cleanup at Pumphouse Recreation Area (BLM); continued work on East Shore Trail (National Park Service); Trail maintenance of Serendipity Trail (US Forest Service); trail reroute of Strawberry Fruit Loop Trail (BLM); and turnpike/bridge construction on the Sherman Creek Trail (US Forest Service).
To reduce food waste and unnecessary plastic, volunteers are asked to bring a lunch, water bottle and a cloth bag to collect “goodies.” Small snacks, including chips, fruit and brownies, will be provided. A catered dinner and celebration, including door prizes and live music, will be held immediately after the volunteer projects.
Join the Grand County National Public Lands Day Facebook page, where you can look for carpool rides available and see photos and comments from previous years.
