Stream Restoration Project Updates - Fraser River at Kaibab Park and Willow Creek below Willow Creek Reservoir

Willow Creek below Willow Creek Reservoir

Our project downstream from Willow Creek Reservoir addresses ecological degradation caused by sediment supply issues, regulated flows, and land use impacts. This restoration effort focuses on stabilizing stream banks, restoring riparian areas and floodplain connectivity, and improving fish habitat. Additionally, we plan to enhance parking and public access.

This property is owned by the Northern Colorado Water Conservation District and Colorado Parks and Wildlife has a fishing and hunting lease that permits the public to access the property for fishing, small game, and waterfowl hunting. You can find full regulations for Willow Creek Reservoir State Wildlife Area by clicking here. Parking and public fishing access is from the adjoining USFS property that is northwest of the property (see map by clicking here). You can call the CPW office in Hot Sulphur Springs if you have questions about the property at (970) 725-6200.

GEI Consultants are currently working on the final design for this project, which is expected to be completed by early 2025. Like the Fraser River project, we have applied for federal construction funding and will find out if we've secured the grant in November 2025. If successful, construction will begin in late summer/early fall of 2025.

Fraser River at Kaibab Park

This project is dedicated to enhancing the aquatic habitat in a segment of the Fraser River, located at Kaibab Park in the Town of Granby. This project will improve conditions for fish and benthic macroinvertebrates by narrowing the channel and increasing habitat diversity. The enhanced macroinvertebrate habitat is expected to support greater fish density and biomass.

The final design for this project, produced by Stillwater Sciences, has received approval from the Town of Granby. We have applied for federal funding to cover construction costs and will learn if we've been awarded the grant in November 2024. Should we receive funding, construction is scheduled to start in late summer/early fall of 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates from these exciting projects!
